Redevelopment of 137 acres of brownfield industrial waterfront presented an opportunity for the Port and City of Bellingham, Western Washington University, and community and business partners to use the mixed-use redevelopment to improve the quality of education, sustainability, culture, community and economic
development of the region. STRATUS assisted the university by engaging its internal and external communities to identify and articulate themes and program connections, potential partnerships, and determine physical planning requirements and alternative funding sources to describe a shared vision.
